anomaly scan (18-22+6 weeks)

This detailed scan is the main pregnancy scan in most heath systems. During the scan each part of your baby’s body will be examined, with special attention given to the brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, bowel, kidneys and limbs.

We will determine the position of your placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid and measure how the baby is growing. We will also measure the blood flow from you to your womb (uterine artery Doppler’s) to assess the chance of placental problems, which can lead to reduced growth or high blood pressure problems. Knowing this information will help us plan the level of monitoring you and your baby need and can be life saving.
